Every nicotine pouch needs a pH adjuster. Nicotine absorbs through the gum tissue
faster in an alkaline environment, so the pH of a pouch determines how quickly and how
strongly you feel it.
There is more than one way to do this, and the choice changes the product.
Sodium bicarbonate is a buffer. Baking soda, chemically speaking. A buffer resists
change — it establishes a pH and holds it there as the pouch works. Sodium carbonate,
or soda ash, is a strong base. It drives pH substantially higher and does not buffer in
the same range, so pH can run high early and drift as the pouch depletes.
Two things follow from choosing the buffer:
Steady release instead of a front-loaded spike. Because the pH stays in a narrow
band, nicotine releases at a more even rate across the full thirty minutes rather than
arriving mostly in the first few.
Flavor you can actually taste. Strong alkalinity carries a soapy, salty note of its own that
competes with everything else in the pouch. Keeping pH moderate is why our extractbased flavors read clearly at under 1% stevia, instead of needing heavy sweetening to
cover the base.
We publish this because pH is one of the least discussed and most consequential
variables in a nicotine pouch, and because you should be able to compare it across the

Structural Filler — microcrystalline cellulose, under 5%
Microcrystalline cellulose is a fine, uniform, plant-derived powder — the same
